Delphine Cobbaert

Delphine Cobbaert is a passionate textile designer from Ghent. After completing her master in textile design at the school of Arts in Ghent, she founded her own traditional weaving mill in April 2019.

Weaving is an age-old technique that Delphine came into contact with from an early age. Her blood flows from a textile family and wants to continue this tradition. Over the years it became a real passion that she wanted to translate into unique and timeless textiles with her own personality.

"My series "My Poetic Line" was created out of my interest in the relationship between humans and nature. In farming, humans divide the organic landscape into industrial frames of flat distribution, grids, horizontal, vertical and slanting lines. While on one hand the landscape is measurable and thought out with patience and precision, on the other hand it also has a clear emotional charge. The landscapes evoke a form of alienation, unfamiliarity and infinity. Each landscape is different and possesses a lot of layers, rhythm and contrast. The land is worked on by humans in a pattern. Because humans are not perfect, subtle and tactile elements with imperfection arise in that way. In my work there is a continuous interaction between the emotional, the poetic and the structured techniques. This creates an abstract, layered line of fragile and rough textures, colors and natural materials. The inner serenity and craftsmanship penetrates the viewer and brings him in a state of approach and contemplation."
